What You'll Need
- Abendo Anti-Slip Shoe Sole Protective Tape (5cm × 2m roll)
- Scissors (household scissors are sufficient — the pre-printed grid lines guide your cuts)
- Isopropyl alcohol or acetone (for cleaning the sole)
- Clean cloth
- Hair dryer (optional — for post-heat edge sealing)
Surface Preparation
- Clean the outsole — Wipe the sole thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol (70%+) or acetone on a clean cloth. Remove all dirt, oil, dust, wax, and silicone-based polish residue. A clean sole surface is critical for adhesive performance.
- Dry completely — Wait 1–2 minutes for the solvent to evaporate fully. The adhesive requires a dry surface for maximum initial bond.
- Check the temperature — Ideal application temperature is 15°C to 35°C. Cold outsoles (below 10°C) will show reduced initial tack. If the shoes have been stored in a cold environment, bring them indoors and let them warm up for 30 minutes before applying.
Application Steps
Measure against the shoe — Place the shoe on the tape roll (liner side up). Visually estimate the coverage area you need — forefoot, heel, or full sole.
Cut using the grid — The release liner's printed grid provides straight cutting guides. Align your scissors with the nearest grid line and cut. The grid eliminates the need for a ruler or measuring tape.
Peel and align — Peel back approximately 3–4cm of the release liner to expose the adhesive. Align the exposed adhesive edge with one end of the sole (heel or toe — whichever is more convenient).
Press and smooth — Press the exposed adhesive firmly onto the sole center. Using firm thumb pressure, smooth outward from center to edges while progressively peeling the remaining liner. Work slowly to avoid trapping air bubbles.
Trim excess — If any tape extends beyond the sole edge, trim with scissors at a slight inward angle for a flush, invisible finish. The 0.3mm thickness makes the edge nearly undetectable.
Allow curing — Let the adhesive cure for 24 hours at room temperature to achieve full bond strength. The shoes can be worn immediately after application, but avoid prolonged wet exposure during the first 12 hours.
Post-heat edges (recommended) — For maximum edge security on curved or high-flex soles (high heels, athletic shoes), warm the tape edges with a hair dryer at medium heat for 10–15 seconds and press firmly. This seals the edge and prevents lift during walking.
Removal & Replacement
- Warm the tape surface with a hair dryer at medium heat (60–80°C) for 30–60 seconds.
- Lift one corner with a fingernail or plastic tool (do not use a metal blade — it may scratch the sole).
- Peel slowly at a low angle (nearly flat against the sole, approximately 160–180°). The adhesive releases cleanly.
- If any adhesive residue remains, wipe with isopropyl alcohol or a citrus-based adhesive remover.
- Clean the sole, dry it, and apply fresh tape following the steps above.
